A seven-week road closure on Eastwick Road, Harlow is due to take place from 21 September 2026.
The highways improvements form part of the wider Central Stort Crossing programme and are expected to be completed in Winter 2028.
The overall programme includes installing construction accesses off the A414 to form safe access to working areas on the upcoming Gilston development.
This will be followed by improvements along the A414/Eastwick Road and along Fifth Avenue – Zelenskyy Avenue.
In later phases, Eastwick Roundabout will be converted to a traffic signal-controlled junction for better traffic flow.
Once complete, the Central Stort Crossing and associated highway improvements will provide enhanced connectivity between the new Gilston neighbourhoods and Harlow, improve journey times, support walking, cycling and public transport, and help accommodate future growth across the Harlow and Gilston Garden Town area.
The road eastbound of the A414/Zelenskyy Avenue roundabout will be closed for seven weeks from 21 September through to 8 November 2026.
A signed diversion will guide drivers via High Wych.
Road users should follow the recommended diversion in place as other road projects are underway.
To minimise the long-term impact for residents and road users along Eastwick Road, temporary two-way traffic lights will also be installed at the Burnt Mill junction to support the installation of BT diversion works.
This will be delivered in phases, starting on 14 September 2026, as part of a 16-week programme and all residents will retain access to their homes.
At the same time, two-way traffic lights will be installed along Zelenskyy Avenue during nighttime works, and the 24hour lane closures along the A414 dual carriageway will remain until early 2027.
The works include installing and diverting utility services, as well as improving drainage.
The scheme is being delivered through a joint venture between Places for People and Barratt Redrow, with construction carried out by Natta, to provide the necessary infrastructure to support the new villages being delivered*. It is funded through Homes England with Hertfordshire County Council, who are also the local highway’s authority, overseeing the funding arrangements on behalf of the Harlow & Gilston Garden Town partnership.
