For all the latest updates on construction works taking place in and around the area as part of the masterplan, please see the information below.
We would like to inform residents and road users of upcoming works on A414/Eastwick Road.
Upcoming Lane Closures: Eastwick Road
Dates: 7 July 2026 to 27 July 2026
Duration: Approximately three weeks
Traffic Management: 24hour single lane closure on A414
During this period, one lane of the A414 will remain closed in each direction, with one lane open to traffic in each direction along the dual carriageway.
These closures are required to complete the final phase of the enabling works, including the construction of the south-western site access. This new access will enable the contractor to safely reach the remaining section of the site and continue construction activities away from the live highway.
During this period the team will be working extended working hours. Activity on site can be between 07:30 and 17:30 weekdays and 07:30 and 15:30 Saturdays.
We understand that this may cause some disruption and thank you for your patience while these essential works are carried out. Please allow extra time for your journeys and follow all on-site signage and traffic management instructions.

Central Stort Crossing
In May 2026, work will begin on the next phase of the sustainable transport network. The Central Stort Crossing North is part of the Harlow & Gilston Garden Town masterplan which PfP & Barratt Redrow are proud to partner with HGGT and Hertfordshire County Council on. It will bring long-term improvements for the wider area, helping to support future growth and improve connectivity.
We recognise that construction activity can be disruptive for those living and working nearby. These works are, however, essential to delivering long term transport improvements for the community and future growth for the region. In addition to laying the groundwork for the wider development near Gilston, the scheme will create safer and more efficient connections for years to come.
The full programme is expected to take approximately two and a half years. Updates will be provided on the website as the project progresses, with information on each phase of work. These updates will be supported by community drop-in sessions and regular newsletters to help residents stay informed.
First phase – May 2026 – July 2026
The first phase of works will involve the installation of construction access off the A414 (Eastwick Road). This will form safe access to working areas away from the existing highway. To allow these works to be carried out safely, there will be temporary signage and traffic light-controlled lane closures in place. Included in the first phase there will be lane closures off the roundabout to support investigation works and vegetation clearance
All proposed works are subject to Hertfordshire County Council approval of traffic management proposals.
We appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience, and we will continue to take proactive steps to minimise the disruption. This first phase is expected to take approximately nine weeks, after which works continue as part of this major highway upgrade.
The project is expected to run until Winter 2028. Major milestones will be communicated in advance, and timelines may adjust based on weather, engineering requirements or safety considerations.
Joint Venture Commitment
The PfP & Barratt Redrow joint venture is committed to delivering the Central Stort Crossing North responsibly.
We recognise that this is one of several projects taking place in the area and that the work will cause unavoidable disruption. We are focused on minimising its impact wherever possible and appreciate the patience and understanding of the local community as we collectively build towards a stronger, better-connected community.
